Nurturing the Next Generation
The Somerset Bengali Association (SBA) has been nurturing the love for Bengali language and culture among children for the past five years. Through our online Bengali classes, we introduce young learners to their roots, connecting them to the rich heritage of language, literature, and culture.
Our weekend Zoom sessions are thoughtfully structured with two 8-week terms each year, complemented by a summer camp during school breaks..

Bengali Classes Grouped by Skill Level for Personalized Learning
BEGINNER
- Identify and write Swaroborno (vowels) and Banjaonborno (consonants)
- Practice matras and their usage
- Read and write basic numbers
- Build practical vocabulary through fun activities
- Recite poems and songs using audio/video tools
INTERMEDIAte
- Review alphabets and matras
- Practice reading/writing with simple words
- Learn opposites, rhymes, verbs, tenses, adjectives
- Translate basic Bengali ↔ English sentences
- Explore Bengali icons through poems and songs
BEGINNER
- Converse in Bengali with fluency and proper accent
- Read/write using juktakkhor, matras, and connectors
- Learn Bengali months, seasons, and culture
- Read Sahaj Path, Barna Parichay, and stories
- Write sentences and stories; participate in discussions
